The San Diego Tourism Authority has elected California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) Council Member and bed & breakfast owner, Ann Callahan as a member of their 2014 Board of Directors. Callahan joins the 29 member board comprised of San Diego tourism industry professionals and community stakeholders. These Directors work on behalf of the community to help guide the San Diego Tourism Authority drive visitor demand to the San Diego region.
Sacramento, Calif. -- High school hospitality students from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California took home the international title in the eleventh annual American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) International Hospitality & Tourism Management Competition (HTMP) for the second year in a row.
On April 1, 2014 the California Hotel & Lodging Association announced the launch of its newly redesigned logo. “It’s an exciting, more updated logo for an association that’s growing and evolving – an association that’s protecting the rights and interests of the California lodging industry, providing educational training and cost-saving programs for all segments of the industry, and for supporting strategic alliances to promote the value of California tourism and travel,” said CH&LA CEO Lynn Mohrfeld.
Washington, D.C. – Three California properties were awarded AH&LA Achievement Awards by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), as part of the annual Stars of the Industry Awards. These awards, awarded annually since 1966, distinguish individual hotels that have developed outstanding programs, events, and campaigns. Winners were chosen in the categories of Community Service, Special Events, Guest Relations, Good Earthkeeping, and Technology Innovation.
The California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) has elected Candace Savage, MHS, as the 2014 President of the Foundation. Savage is the Regional Sales Director of USA Today/Gannett Publishing Services. She has served on the CH&LA Board of Directors since 2002 and Education Foundation Board of Directors since 2008.
The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has elected Bimal Patel, CHA and Terri Haack to its Board of Directors. Patel, partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, will be representing Partner State Associations. Haack, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Terranea Resort, Destination Hotels & Resorts in Rancho Palos Verdes will be an independent representative and will also sit on the AH&LA Executive Committee.
The U.S. Travel Association has elected California Hotel & Lodging Association President and CEO, Lynn Mohrfeld, CAE as an At-Large Director for the Board of Directors for the 2014-2016 term. Mohrfeld joins the Board with five other newly elected At-Large Directors, two of which are also from California. Mohrfeld’s first meeting as an At-Large Director will be during the Destination Capitol Hill event on February 28, 2014 in Washington D.C.

Indian Wells, Calif. – The California Hotel & Lodging Association announced their 2013 Stars of the Industry award winners today at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa. The annual Stars of the Industry awards, presented by USA TODAY, are given out to honor lodging employees and properties that best symbolize the quality service of the industry. The 2013 awards were given out for four property and six individual categories.

Barrios, General Manager of the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel in San Diego, into the CH&LA Hall of Fame today at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa. The Hall of Fame award is CH&LA’s most prestigious honor, presented to California hoteliers or industry executives recognized for outstanding contributions of leadership, service, and professionalism to the California lodging industry and the community at large. Luis Barrios is the 25th recipient of the CH&LA Hall of Fame award.

California Hotel & Lodging Association’s (CH&LA) national affiliate, American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) has distributed a total of $43,000 in scholarship awards to 25 California students at seven different hospitality programs. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, hospitality work experience, financial need and other requirements based on specific criteria of the scholarship. In addition, all of the scholarships are funded by voluntary industry contributions.
Coinciding with International Housekeepers Week, the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) today announced the commencement of a project to improve safety and training of hotel housekeepers.
