The California Association of Boutique and Breakfast Inns Program Coordinator Jenn Wheaton, Receives International Award

Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the global association for meeting professionals, presented Jenn Wheaton of the California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) a 2014 Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence (RISE) Award at MPI's World Education Congress in Minneapolis.  The RISE Award for Young Professional Achievement was awarded to Wheaton for her strategic use of technology and social media to help the bed and breakfast industry in California embrace a new generation of travelers. CH&LA Education Foundation Awards Over $20,000 in Scholarships and Industry Support

Sacramento, Calif. -- The California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) announced 16 scholarship award recipients. These scholarships, along with the sponsorship of two Hospitality Conferences geared towards students’ continued education in the hospitality industry, total $23,000 for this year.

CH&LAEF Awards Over $20k in Scholarships & Industry Support

LA City Council Minimum Wage Hike for Hotel Industry Will Cost Jobs, Taxes & Future, Independent Study Shows

Sacramento (June 26, 2014) --  A Los Angeles City Council proposal to expedite a minimum-wage increase for hotel workers would have serious negative consequences for hotel workers and the city’s economy, according to an independent study released today.

The City Council is considering a measure that would raise the minimum wage to $15.37 per hour for hotel workers in 2015, making it the highest amount with the quickest implementation in the nation, according to the study by PKF Consulting USA.

1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach Becomes First Certified Guest Service Property in California

The CH&LA Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) is pleased to announce the 1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach has become the first property in California to achieve the distinction of being an AH&LA Certified Guest Service Property (CGSP).  Innkeeper, Susan Nelson, received the award on behalf of the inn, in the presence of attendees of the Southern California Hotel & Lodging Conference held in City of Industry, CA.  Presenting her with the award was CH&LA President & CEO, Lynn Mohrfeld.

Bimal Patel, CHA Appointed to AAHOA Government Affairs Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA – California Hotel & Lodging Association Board Chair, Bimal Patel, CHA and partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, has been appointed to the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Government Affairs Committee.  This is Bimal Patel’s second National board appoint this year, as he was appointed the American Hotel & Lodging Associations (AH&LA) Board of Directors in February.

Ann Callahan, CABBI Member, Elected to San Diego Tourism Authority Board of Directors

The San Diego Tourism Authority has elected California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) Council Member and bed & breakfast owner, Ann Callahan as a member of their 2014 Board of Directors. Callahan joins the 29 member board comprised of San Diego tourism industry professionals and community stakeholders. These Directors work on behalf of the community to help guide the San Diego Tourism Authority drive visitor demand to the San Diego region.

Monta Vista High School Wins Annual Lodging Competition for the Second Year in a Row

Sacramento, Calif. -- High school hospitality students from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California took home the international title in the eleventh annual American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) International Hospitality & Tourism Management Competition (HTMP) for the second year in a row.

CH&LA Members Recognized at National AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards

Washington, D.C. – Three California properties were awarded AH&LA Achievement Awards by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), as part of the annual Stars of the Industry Awards.  These awards, awarded annually since 1966, distinguish individual hotels that have developed outstanding programs, events, and campaigns.  Winners were chosen in the categories of Community Service, Special Events, Guest Relations, Good Earthkeeping, and Technology Innovation.

Candace Savage elected as 2014 President of the CH&LA Education Foundation

The California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) has elected Candace Savage, MHS, as the 2014 President of the Foundation.  Savage is the Regional Sales Director of USA Today/Gannett Publishing Services. She has served on the CH&LA Board of Directors since 2002 and Education Foundation Board of Directors since 2008.

Bimal Patel and Terri Haack Elected to AH&LA Board of Directors

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has elected Bimal Patel, CHA and Terri Haack to its Board of Directors.  Patel, partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, will be representing Partner State Associations. Haack, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Terranea Resort, Destination Hotels & Resorts in Rancho Palos Verdes will be an independent representative and will also sit on the AH&LA Executive Committee.

Lynn Mohrfeld, CAE Elected as At-Large Director for the U.S. Travel Association

The U.S. Travel Association has elected California Hotel & Lodging Association President and CEO, Lynn Mohrfeld, CAE as an At-Large Director for the Board of Directors for the 2014-2016 term. Mohrfeld joins the Board with five other newly elected At-Large Directors, two of which are also from California. Mohrfeld’s first meeting as an At-Large Director will be during the Destination Capitol Hill event on February 28, 2014 in Washington D.C.

Indian Wells, Calif. - The California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) elected its 2014 Board of Directors at today’s annual meeting at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa in Palm Springs.
