CH&LA Announces 2014 Stars of the Industry Award Winners

San Francisco, Calif. – The California Hotel & Lodging Association announced their 2014 Stars of the Industry award winners this past Friday at the Westin St. Francis hotel in San Francisco. The annual Stars of the Industry awards, presented by USA TODAY, are given out to honor lodging employees and properties that best symbolize the quality service of the industry. The 2014 awards were given out for five property and six individual categories, as well as one industry supplier category.

California Hotel & Lodging Association Announces 2015 Board of Directors

San Francisco, Calif. - The California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) elected its 2015 Board of Directors at its annual meeting this Friday, November 21 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. The 2015 chair will be Terri Haack of Terranea Resort. U.S Travel Association: Ebola Response for Travel Community

A helpful 30-minute call on the Ebola virus response was conducted for U.S. Travel members last Thursday by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Agency officials covered topics important to travel professionals, including the layered entry screening approach at select U.S. airports, clarification on transmission, and other related information. The Handlery Foundation is giving back to the hospitality community through a $5,000 donation to the California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) scholarship program. The Handlery Foundation has been an essential supporter of the CH&LA Education Foundation and its mission to foster the education of our future hospitality industry leaders. For two generations, the Handlery family has been a very active member of the California Hotel & Lodging Association for many years with Jon Handlery currently sitting on the board of directors.

The California Association of Boutique and Breakfast Inns Program Coordinator Jenn Wheaton, Receives International Award

Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the global association for meeting professionals, presented Jenn Wheaton of the California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) a 2014 Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence (RISE) Award at MPI's World Education Congress in Minneapolis.  The RISE Award for Young Professional Achievement was awarded to Wheaton for her strategic use of technology and social media to help the bed and breakfast industry in California embrace a new generation of travelers. Jennifer Flohr Officially Begins Term as Meeting Professionals International Chapter President

Sacramento,Calif. -- Jennifer Flohr, CMP,CAE ofthe California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) has officially began her term on July 1st after being sworn in at the Sacramento/Sierra Nevada Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPISSN) Annual Gala to become the 2014-15 chapter president. Sacramento, Calif. -- The California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) announced 16 scholarship award recipients. These scholarships, along with the sponsorship of two Hospitality Conferences geared towards students’ continued education in the hospitality industry, total $23,000 for this year.

LA City Council Minimum Wage Hike for Hotel Industry Will Cost Jobs, Taxes & Future, Independent Study Shows

Sacramento (June 26, 2014) --  A Los Angeles City Council proposal to expedite a minimum-wage increase for hotel workers would have serious negative consequences for hotel workers and the city’s economy, according to an independent study released today.

The City Council is considering a measure that would raise the minimum wage to $15.37 per hour for hotel workers in 2015, making it the highest amount with the quickest implementation in the nation, according to the study by PKF Consulting USA.

1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach Becomes First Certified Guest Service Property in California

Bimal Patel, CHA Appointed to AAHOA Government Affairs Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA – California Hotel & Lodging Association Board Chair, Bimal Patel, CHA and partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, has been appointed to the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Government Affairs Committee.  This is Bimal Patel’s second National board appoint this year, as he was appointed the American Hotel & Lodging Associations (AH&LA) Board of Directors in February.

The San Diego Tourism Authority has elected California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) Council Member and bed & breakfast owner, Ann Callahan as a member of their 2014 Board of Directors. Callahan joins the 29 member board comprised of San Diego tourism industry professionals and community stakeholders. These Directors work on behalf of the community to help guide the San Diego Tourism Authority drive visitor demand to the San Diego region.
