LA City Council Minimum Wage Hike for Hotel Industry Will Cost Jobs, Taxes & Future, Independent Study ShowsJune 26, 2014
Sacramento (June 26, 2014) -- A Los Angeles City Council proposal to expedite a minimum-wage increase for hotel workers would have serious negative consequences for hotel workers and the city’s economy, according to an independent study released today.
The City Council is considering a measure that would raise the minimum wage to $15.37 per hour for hotel workers in 2015, making it the highest amount with the quickest implementation in the nation, according to the study by PKF Consulting USA.

SACRAMENTO, CA – California Hotel & Lodging Association Board Chair, Bimal Patel, CHA and partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, has been appointed to the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Government Affairs Committee. This is Bimal Patel’s second National board appoint this year, as he was appointed the American Hotel & Lodging Associations (AH&LA) Board of Directors in February.
The San Diego Tourism Authority has elected California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) Council Member and bed & breakfast owner, Ann Callahan as a member of their 2014 Board of Directors. Callahan joins the 29 member board comprised of San Diego tourism industry professionals and community stakeholders. These Directors work on behalf of the community to help guide the San Diego Tourism Authority drive visitor demand to the San Diego region.

Washington, D.C. – Three California properties were awarded AH&LA Achievement Awards by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), as part of the annual Stars of the Industry Awards. These awards, awarded annually since 1966, distinguish individual hotels that have developed outstanding programs, events, and campaigns. Winners were chosen in the categories of Community Service, Special Events, Guest Relations, Good Earthkeeping, and Technology Innovation.

Savage is the Regional Sales Director of USA Today/Gannett Publishing Services. She has served on the CH&LA Board of Directors since 2002 and Education Foundation Board of Directors since 2008.
The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has elected Bimal Patel, CHA and Terri Haack to its Board of Directors. Patel, partner with Concept Hotel Group in Menlo Park, will be representing Partner State Associations. Haack, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Terranea Resort, Destination Hotels & Resorts in Rancho Palos Verdes will be an independent representative and will also sit on the AH&LA Executive Committee.
The U.S. Travel Association has elected California Hotel & Lodging Association President and CEO, Lynn Mohrfeld, CAE as an At-Large Director for the Board of Directors for the 2014-2016 term. Mohrfeld joins the Board with five other newly elected At-Large Directors, two of which are also from California. Mohrfeld’s first meeting as an At-Large Director will be during the Destination Capitol Hill event on February 28, 2014 in Washington D.C.
