SB 432 - Now a Two Year BillFri Aug 26, 2011
We are pleased to report that yesterday SB 432 (De León-D, Los Angeles) that requires fitted sheets and long-handled tools for housekeepers, was pulled by the author and sponsors. The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn September 9th and while SB 432 is now a two year bill, CH&LA will remain vigilant over the next couple of weeks should the author/sponsors attempt rule waivers to allow the bill to be considered again prior to adjournment. The bill will however, be eligible for further consideration in 2012.
Importantly, the sponsors have indicated that they intend to pursue the issue through the regulatory process in lieu of the legislative process by requesting that the Cal OSHA Standards Board look into both the sheet and tool issues. CH&LA will continue to represent your interests to the Standards Board during that process.
Thank you all for taking the time to write, email and call your elected officials on this important issue. The voice of the industry played a large part in making this legislation a two year bill.
As always, if you have any questions regarding SB 432 or any other government and legal relations matters, please do not hesitate to contact us here at CH&LA.
