American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation Scholarships
Student Awarded Scholarship Program Overview
The American Express, Ecolab, The Steven Hymans Extended Stay Scholarship, and Lodging
Management Program (LMP) scholarship programs are eligible for individual students to
apply directly to the Foundation without nomination from their dean's office. While
applicants do not need to attend an AH&LEF-affiliated hospitality management
program, the American Express scholarship require applicants to be employed at AH&LA
member hotels and the LMP scholarships are exclusively for high school graduates of the
LMP program.
American Express Scholarship Program
The American Express Scholarship Program is offered to lodging employees, working a
minimum of 20 hours a week at American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)
member properties and to their dependents. If you or your parents are working at a
hotel, ask your general manager if your property is a member of AH&LA and the
state hotel association. The program offers two types of scholarships.
Academic Scholarships
Provides financial support to students enrolled in an accredited undergraduate academic
program leading to a degree in hospitality management. Scholarship amounts can range
between $2,000 and $500 depending on enrollment status.

Professional Development Scholarships
Provides financial support to students enrolled in distance learning courses or
professional certifications courses offered through the Educational Institute (EI).
Applicants must be intending to enroll in the Educational Institute program to qualify.
AH&LEF makes scholarship payment directly to EI on the recipient's behalf. The
deadlines are quarterly (January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1). Click here for

Ecolab Scholarship Program
The Ecolab Scholarship Program offers two types of scholarships: academic and
certification through the Educational Institute (EI).
Applicants must be enrolled or intend to enroll full-time (at least 12 hours) in a U.S.
baccalaureate or associate hospitality degree-granting program for both the upcoming
fall and spring semesters. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 for
enrollment in a two-year program and $2,000 for a four-year program.

Lodging Management Program Scholarship
The Lodging Management Program (LMP) scholarships were established
to recognize the
achievements of high school students who have successfully completed both years of the
LMP high school curriculum and to encourage their further studies in an accredited
undergraduate hospitality management degree-granting program or in an Educational
Institute distance learning course or professional certification. Interested high school
graduates should inquire with their LMP instructor at school.

The Steve Hymans Extended Stay Scholarship Program
This scholarship honors Steve E. Hymans, a 25-year veteran of the hospitality industry
and one of the extended stay's most knowledgeable and experienced professionals.
The purpose of the scholarship program is to help educate more undergraduate hospitality
management students about the needs, interests and concerns of the extended stay segment
of the lodging industry. Scholarship amounts can range between $500 and $2,000 depending
on enrollment status. Applicants must have previous work experience at an extended stay
property and a desire to pursue their professional careers in this segment of industry.
