The Certified Lodging Security Officer (CLSO) designation provides recognition of security skills. Recognized worldwide, the CLSO designation is the premier symbol of professional achievement for lodging security officers. The CLSO designation may be used on letterhead, business cards, and other writings. The CLSO lapel pin and certificates are the visible symbols of the holder's status and achievement.

Qualifications for CLSO Certification

  • Full-time employment as a hospitality security officer for 90 days is the only qualification for the CLSO.

The certification fee per applicant is $35 for AH&LA Members. $40 for non-members. **Fee includes application and exam, plus designation, lapel pin, and certificate.

Recommended Preparation for Exam

Lodging Security Officer Program, available from EI at $159.95 for AH&LA members, $199.95 for non-members. CLSO Study Guide, also available from EI at $49.95 for AH&LA members, $59.95 for non-members. The CLSO Study Guide is recommended for non-group applicants. Lodging Security Officer Program is a one-time investment for your property.

How to Apply for CLSO Certification

  1. Print the order form, complete and return it by mail or fax, along with all supporting documentation and the appropriate fee. You must have Adobe Acrobat to view this application form. Click Adobe Acrobat to download program.
  2. Ask your supervisor to complete and return the CLSO order form. Within three weeks, the Educational Institute will input the order and send the CLSO exam packet(s) to your designated proctor.
  3. Successfully complete the CLSO comprehensive exam through a group certification-review class or through an approved proctor.
