The Certified Lodging Security Supervisor (CLSS) designation provides recognition
of security skills. Recognized worldwide, the CLSS designation is the premier symbol
of professional achievement for lodging security personnel. It's an honor awarded to
professionals whose leadership and supervisory abilities are exemplary - professionals
who, by combining education and experience with dedication to the industry, have
achieved a high level of expertise. The CLSS designation may be used on letterhead,
business cards, and other writings. The CLSS lapel pin and certificates are the visible
symbols of the holder's status and achievement.
Qualifications for CLSS Certification
You may qualify in one of two ways:
- Current, full-time employment as a hospitality security supervisor for a minimum
of nine months. Supervisory qualifying duties include scheduling, training,
interviewing, disciplining, inspecting, and conducting performance reviews
- Current, full-time employment as a hospitality security supervisor for three
months plus completion of two Educational Institute programs: The Supervisory Skill
Builder series and the Hotel/Motel Security Management Course.

How to Apply for CLSS Certification
- Print the application form, complete and return it by mail or fax, along with all
supporting documentation and the appropriate fee. You must have Adobe Acrobat to view

- Ask your supervisor to complete and return the CLSS Recommendation/Employment
Verification Form that comes with the application. Within three weeks, the Educational
Institute will review the application and send notification of acceptance.
- Successfully complete the CLSS comprehensive exam through a group certification-review
class or through an approved proctor.
