SCHOLARSHIPS

CH&LA's Education Foundation is supported by the generous contributions of individuals and entities. CH&LA currently has four different scholarship programs administered and funded by its Education Foundation:

Kevin Johnson Memorial Scholarship: The purpose of this scholarship program is to recognize those high schools which have lodging management programs and to provide incentives to the scholarship recipients to continue with their education and seek employment in the lodging industry. Each recipient receives a series of up to four one-year scholarships in the amount of $1,500 per year.

The scholarship program was established by Don Johnson in memory of his son, Kevin Johnson, who was involved in the hospitality industry as a baker and passed away unexpectedly in 2004 from heart failure.

Working Professional Scholarship: This program is intended to reward lodging employees who seek to expand their education and knowledge in their current job positions or in order to be able to obtain a different or better job in the lodging industry. General Scholarship: This program operates to recognize and financially assist California residents who have demonstrated a desire to make the lodging industry a career or are currently employed in the lodging industry and have applied to or are enrolled in a two- or four-year university and/or lodging management program. Richard Schroeck Scholarship: This scholarship is $1,000, and it is awarded annually to hospitality engineers or maintenance personnel and their dependents. In addition to meeting the criteria for the Foundation's general scholarships, applicants must either be an hourly employee currently working as an "engineer" or similar capacity at a CH&LA-member property or be the natural or adopted son or daughter of such a person.
