1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach Becomes First Certified Guest Service Property in California

City of Industry, Calif. -- The CH&LA Education Foundation (CH&LAEF) is pleased to announce the 1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach has become the first property in California to achieve the distinction of being an AH&LA Certified Guest Service Property (CGSP).  Innkeeper, Susan Nelson, received the award on behalf of the inn, in the presence of attendees of the Southern California Hotel & Lodging Conference held in City of Industry, CA.  Presenting her with the award was CH&LA President & CEO, Lynn Mohrfeld.

“Susan and her staff set a high standard of guest service and have demonstrated their dedication by taking the time to complete the Guest Service Gold Certification program,“ stated Lynn Mohrfeld.

The CH&LAEF launched the Lodging Service Award last fall, which offered member properties the opportunity to submit entries to receive the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s Guest Service Gold Training & Certification Program.  The comprehensive program is designed to accomplish the goal of creating guest-service oriented line-level employees who know how to engage with their guests to provide memorable guest service.  Ms. Nelson submitted an application and was selected to receive the award, which provided her entire front-line staff with the training and certification.

The staff of the 1906 Lodge had already been providing excellent guest service, but by completing this program, the staff not only learned some new ways to improve the guest experience, but each staff member also passed an exam which earned them their Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP) designation.  With all staff achieving this goal, the property is now recognized as a Certified Guest Service Property, and may proudly display a CGSP certification plaque for their guests to see.
